Builders in Haryana owe Rs 12,857 cr in EDC to govt

A total of nearly Rs 12,857 crore of external development charges (EDC) were outstanding against builders in Haryana as on December 31, 2016, with Gurugram and Faridabad accounting for bulk of unpaid dues, the state assembly was informed here today.

Of the total amount, an amount of nearly Rs 7,137 crore was outstanding against builders in Gurugram district alone while builders owe Rs 1,053 crore in Faridabad district.

Among other districts, Rs 846 crore EDC was due in Panipat, Rs 370 crore in Jhajjar, Rs 375 crore in Panchkula, Rs 680 crore in Sonipat, Rs 397 crore in Rohtak and Rs 340 crore in Karnal.

The Department of Town and Country Planing has granted 1235 licences from January 1, 2005 to October 31, 2014 for setting up colonies under the provisions of the Haryana Development and Regulations of Urban Areas Act, 1975, the Assembly was informed.

Gurugram, where the present BJP government has put many land deals under the scanner, topped in granting 768 licences involving 24,810 acres of land, followed by 116 licences in Faridabad (with 2473 acres of land), 83 licences in Sonipat, 51 in Rewari, 14 in Panchkula and lowest of three in Bhiwani.
