Arrested Kurla ISIS sympathiser planned to kill Americans

Anees Ansari, the 24-year-old techie arrested by the Anti-terrorism Squad on October 18 for being an ISIS sympathiser and conspiring to bomb an Americal school, has told interrogators that he planned to kill Americans and other foreigners in the city.

As part of the plan, Ansari had got details of how to prepare a thermite bomb and had created 11 accounts on Facebook.

The ATS picked up Ansari from Kader building in Kurla (W) after receiving information that he planned a terror attack on an American school in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. Ansari, said an officer, misused the internet services provided by his software solution company in SEEPZ to open bogus Facebook accounts and upload derogatory information. The police are going through his chat records, his list of friends, along with his Gmail account details.

Another ATS officer said Ansari spoke about his attack plans with someone through chat. "He wanted to attack Americans and other foreigners in the city to draw the world's attention towards the Iraqi problem," he said. "He got details of how to prepare thermite bombs and even posted the details on his Facebook account."

The ATS has recorded statements of some witnesses who were in touch with Ansari through WhatsApp. These people have accused Ansari of sending provocative messages through WhatsApp.

The police have found that Ansari used to listen to speeches of international terrorists on YouTube.

Ansari has been booked under sections 43 (penalty and compensation for damage to computer, computer system, etc), 66, 66A (punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service, etc) of the Information Technology Act and sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder) and 115 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) of the IPCode.

The police have seized two mobile phones, a memory card, an identity card, a debit card, a cheque book, a CPU, a memory card and three hard disks.
