Google unveils Pixel 2, 2 XL; launches Pixelbook, Google Max smart speaker too: Price, specifications and everything you need to know

Google on Wednesday announced the second generation of its Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The looks of Pixel 2 would definitely remind you of its predecessor but the 2 XL has seen some relevant modifications in its design. 

2 XL has been updated to 6-inch display instead of 5.5 inch. Apart from the display size, the another difference between the two newly launched phones in comparison to the previous one is that they do not encase the fingerprint sensor at the back. 

OIS and EIS are both present on the Pixel 2 smartphones. 

Google said that new phone comes with updated hardware and a camera that has been rated by DxO as the best phone camera ever with 98 points, beating the Apple iPhone 8 Plus that has 94 points.  

Google has also enlarged the size of the camera lens. The Pixel camera also supports various augmented reality features — including AR stickers. You’ll be able to add 3D characters and emoji into photos and videos.

Google Lens also makes its debut on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, which has been designed to pull up helpful information of any object, place or whatever, the user point their camera at.

Priced at $649 (roughly Rs 42,200), $849 (approx. Rs 55,000), Pixel 2 and @ XL are available for pre-order from today itself. 

Another advantage that Pixel users have that they can get the free unlimited storage in Google Photos.  The new phones has an Always-On display. Besides, they come up with a new feature called active edge which will allow users to squeeze the phone to trigger Google Assistant.

Pixel 2 will be available in three colours, Blue, white and Black. 

Another new product that Google launched was Google Clips, it's a camera that works with the Google Pixel phones. Just like other Google products, Google Clips too uses machine learning to click and process its photos. The Google Clips will cost $249 and will be available "soon".

Pixelbook laptop: Besides, the new phones, Google also announced its Pixelbook laptop at a price of Rs $999. The new Pixelbook is high-end chromebook with a 12.3 inch display. Google has opted for a tall 12.3-inch display with a 3:2 screen aspect ratio and rather large bezels. 

It runs on a 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor and has 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. There are two USB-C ports for charging or accessories. Snapchat will be preloaded on pixelbook, which means users can use the app directly from their laptop.

It will be the first laptop with Google Assistant built in. There's also a Pixelbook Pen at a pric eof $99.

Google Max smart speaker: Google announces Home Max, a smart speaker made for sound quality. Just like Apple’s HomePod, the Home Max can tune itself for the room it’s placed in using a machine learning feature called Smart Sound. SMart sound adjusts the audio you’re listening to according to your surroundings. It can also raise or lower the volume depending on what’s happening in your house.

 It features touch controls and supports Bluetooth. It supports many streaming music services such as Google Play Music, Spotify, among others and is priced at $399. The device will be available in December for sale.
