Book review: A Passionaate Gospel of True Love

Poonam Uppal search for love is accompanied by many myths and revelations

Book review: A Passionaate Gospel of True Love

The book claims to be a true story but while reading A Passionaate Gospel of True Love it comes as a revelation of truth of human relationship shaped by the dharma, karma, kama, moksha and artha – the very Indian Vedic philosophy. The story revolves around the holistic love science of Kama Sutra but not least cheesy or cheap.

The book is a compilation of series of events in the author's life but eventually revolves around a trilogy – the two lovers and Ma Durga. From nascent years of innocence the author Poonam Uppal is trapped in a miserable marriage with a young child. The doors of eternal love opens as prophesied in Las Vegas in USA.

It is a love story of glamorous, stylish and fiercely ambitious Indian lass Moh Lal Rai who has only one cherished aspiration on her mind to become an internationally acclaimed avant-garde fashion designer. Destiny deceives Moh's desires landing her in USA. During her fashion show at Las Vegas she experiences violent vibration followed by a thunderous broadcasting of her future: Soon in 1997 you will meet your true eternal lover on this earth...

Dragooned by powerful longing to meet her ancient lover she is now a solitary traveller of an abyss of unfathomable space and time where she is sent on a roller coaster ride to a bizarre realm of gonzo occurrences, visions, premonitions, déjà vus and startling revelation of her past birth. She involuntarily unravels the ancient secret of the extinct cryptic writings of a new religion shrouded in the misty Himalayan valley. Eventually the protagonist is blessed by Maa Durga and a spiritual intervention begins to add meaning to her love life.

It may seem a bit bizarre but the story starts picking pace as you read it further. Also, the author tries to explains that there's a karmic connection to one's rather than only physical attraction or comfortable compatibility. Uppal has described locations and events beautifully. In the end, she forces the reader to think about love as we see it.
