Winning was the last thing they expected. Starting since March 20, Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai's Hard Rock Rising saw a series of live events wherein local bands competed against each other at the Battle of the Bands Comeptition. Last week, Indie rock band The Koniac Net won the final live performance round of the Mumbai editon of this competition, battling other bands like Indo Gypsies and Twist to Break Seal. This event had Arpito Gope and Leslie Lewis on the judging panel. We caught up with frontman David Abraham (vocals and guitar) on their win. The other band members include Jason D'souza (guitar and vocals), Adil Kurwa (bass), Ishaan Krishna (guitar and vocals) and Karun Kannampilly (drums).

The competition
It's noteworthy that it was for the first time the band participated in competition and won it too. It so happens that around three to four months ago, somebody who heard one of their songs being played on the radio in Portland, and urged David to take part in the competition. And they went for it, did their usual rehearsals. At the Battle of the Bands, each band had to play three songs, and The Koniac Net gave their best on: Once, I Ruled By Myself, an indie number, Chasing After You, an upbeat indie song and The Ardent Companion That You Are, which is more on the hard alternative side.

Being taken by surpise
"We were so sure that we were going to lose. We had four friends in the audience who cheered us. Whereas, the Indo Gypsies gave a fantastic performance had the crowds going crazy. When the winners were about to be announced, we didn't we were going to win at all. I was in complete shock when our band name was announced," recalls Abraham. After this win, The Koniac Net will be competing alongside 85 bands across the globe, for the global finals, which will be conducted via online voting. The band looks forward to winning the next round too.

Upcoming EP lauch
Besides this, the band is looking forward to the release of their five-track EP titled Abiogenesis, next week in the city.
