It's been a crazy year, and like every other before, the trends just get crazier and crazier. Some are repeated from the years gone by, and some are brand new. And while this year might have been a shame for a hundred other reasons, here are some great trends to sum up 2016.

The Taylor Swift is Over Party

The TSOP, a narrative that has been going on since 2009, got even crazier this year. The (hopefully) final face off between Kanye West and Taylor Swift happened when Swift accused West for his lyrics about her, after which Kim Kardashian actually posted videos of Swift agreeing to the entire thing beforehand. This led to people commenting a huge amount of snake emojis on Swift's Instagram, and trending the Taylor Swift is Over Party.

Crazy hair trend

This one was all over Instagram for a long time, with people colouring their hair sunset colours, rose gold, platinum gold, grey, lilac and many others as well — it's surprising these people weren't losing hair over the amount of times they coloured it. It was reposted by several famous beauty bloggers, including Huda Kattan.

#Lovetrumpshate

This trending hashtag is courtesy of the recent US elections, and since most teens were supporting Hillary Clinton, this hashtag went viral everywhere after Donald Trump won. With pictures and videos of Trump saying racial slurs, discrimination stories and people protesting on the streets, this hashtag really made an impact this year.

The 100 Layer Challenge

The 100 layer challenge was one of those crazy trends that nobody knew why they were doing — it was so difficult and wasteful. It basically involved someone putting on 100 layers of anything — foundation, nail polish, clothes, eye shadow, and so on. Stupid though it was, it made for great entertainment for everyone.

Choker trend

This one is still trending. It actually became a funny trend over Twitter, with people wearing Nike laces on their neck and receiving a huge amount of compliments over it.

The Evil Kermit Meme

The meme, with the regular Kermit and the Evil Kermit, was all over Twitter/Instagram/Facebook this year. For every single person who had an evil voice inside them (which is everyone), these made for some really hilarious posts.

Harambe

This article would be incomplete without mentioning the world famous gorilla, who was shot in Africa, named Harambe. He received sympathy from all over the world for his unfortunate death, when he was shot. The Harambe trend got even crazier when people started making songs, memes and videos about him, and promising to bring him back to life if Justin Bieber came back on Instagram.

Juju on that beat

This song was the new Watch Me, and got super popular everywhere, with teenagers all over the world making videos to this song.

Ripped jeans/t-shirts

Thanks to the Jenners (and the Hadids), this trend was a rage, with everyone ripping the sleeves off their shirt like Kendall, and ripping their jeans at the back like Kylie. It was actually one of the most Googled beauty related questions this year, and definitely made a huge comeback after a long time.

Thighbrow

Move over, thigh gap. The new trend this year was the 'thighbrow'. In appreciation for women with more curvacious bodies, the thighbrow was trending this year.
