Providing a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life in Mumbai is the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Alibaug. An hour long ferry ride from the Gateway of India will get you to Mandwa jetty, from where the resort is another forty minutes car ride away. The resort that offers various types of rooms, suites, and villas, and an Olympic size swimming pool, isknown for its Escenza Spa that is spread out over 20,000 sq ft. And it was here that I decided to destress and spoil myself. I was first greeted with a peppermint-infused refreshing towel and a guava and aloe vera welcome drink.

The spa has seven treatment rooms, that offer various hair, skin and body pampering treatments, ranging from manicures and pedicures to facials and body massages. There are also special couple treatment packages which include a tranquil bath post massage. Their signature experience which is a two-hour relaxing affair follows a herbal steam, a body scrub, a full aromatherapy massage and a rose milk bath. Those pressed for time can go for the 30 minute foot therapy or a back, neck and shoulder rub. Scrub away dead skin cells with a chocolate, or mint and musk scrub. There’s also a clay treatment to detoxify and cleanse the skin.

I was looking for a rejuvenating massage with medium level pressure and was suggested the Swedish therapy. I had to fill in a brief questionnaire on my problem areas, any allergies and basic information. I was then escorted to my vast room. The couples room come with an attached steam and shower area, whereas the singles room has a shower located outside. I began with a whiff of aromatic oils that was for aura cleansing and energising. All the therapists are well trained as was evident by the thorough and deeply relaxing massage that followed. She used swift movements to facilitate better blood circulation, relieve stress and muscle stiffness. The oil used was a blend of ylang ylang, jasmine, lavender and rose that uplifted the senses. I was informed that lavender works as a rejuvenator, while YlangYlang reduces high blood pressure and rose oil moisturises the skin. By the end of the hour, I felt like I was transported to another land.

Post treatment, I spent a few minutes in the steam followed by a quick shower. A herbal tea and some dry fruits wrapped up my blissful experience.
