In a stagnating fashion space where clothing is becoming increasing commercial and sales-centric, it takes a maverick like Sabyasachi to bulldoze the mundane and the mediocre under his truck of unique style gravitas. His rich, intricate, luxe offering at the Lakme Absolute grand finale of the Lakme Fashion Week was a panoply of the Indian baroque (comprising key heritage elements and Indian regalia), Illuminate range (which was the metaphor for shine and shimmer) and Western pieces (consisting of kaftans, capelets and an oversized fur coats). It was reminiscent of that era in Indian fashion history when people enjoyed hunting, redefined a luxe lifestyle and never skipped a style beat.

The visionary also sent out a line of accessories comprising sling embroidered handbags and fur clutches, which gave each bridal look an of-the-moment totality. Belted sari lehengas, floor-length embroidered jackets, kaftans and Taj Mahal minis lent this offering a multi-layered complexity. Kareena Kapoor Khan played the gorgeous showstopper in a heavily embellished sequinned lehenga-dupatta look.
