Once upon a time, Thali restaurants served unlimited servings of aamras. Rumour has it, that after satiating themselves, mango fans would ask for more servings till they filled up water bottles to carry home with them. The only way thali restaurants could live to see another day serving aamras and not go bankrupt was to limit the servings. So here we are.

Anyway, with money, you can buy more of this happiness; in fact you can take a sizable amount of fresh aamras home.

Grand Thali

While the thali jpint doesn't give only puris for takeaway, you can ask for an alphonso and pairi mix aamras for takeaway in two quantities. The best part about the aamras is their rates. As the season progresses, and mango prices come down, they also bring down the cost of aamras. So, this year, they started at Rs 500 per kg, then brought it down to Rs 450, and now....

While you have unlimited aamras on offer on Saturdays and Sundays, you can also take more home, along with puris at Rs 5 each.

This is perhaps the only place in the city that offers takeaway for as less as 100 gms. No takeaway puris though.

One of the oldest thali places in the city, and perhaps the only one mentioned in the lonely planet guide on India, here you can take home a minimum of five puris for Rs 26.

Their aamras, a mix of two varieties of mango – alphonso and pairi – is made at the same premises every day. You can ask them to pack along puris at Rs 5 each.
