Reena (name changed), a class X student, who was struggling for justice against sexual abuse for some time, finally got a platform to express her grief on Wednesday. Her shocking narration, which came out as ultimate helplessness and rage, proved the point that nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi tried to make during his one-day visit to Jaipur -- there is an urgent need for stringent laws and faster judiciary for child abuse.

Satyarthi, after listening to her agony with a heavy heart and tears in his eyes, assured her adequate justice. He also addressed the rest 15,000 students and ensured that they will always find a “friend” in him.

Satyarthi was in the city as a part of his 35-day ‘Bharat Yatra’, to create awareness and seek solutions to combat the growing menace of child sexual abuse and trafficking.

The session focused on lessons on basic rights that children are granted under the constitution of India, the difference between good touch-bad touch and the need to understand the principles of ‘no touch’ as something to protect themselves and other children from potential abuse.

“They say it is important to communicate the abuse to the parents and then approach the police. I communicated my issue to my parents. We also went to the police. But the police asked us to suppress the matter and keep it to ourselves. We also went to the court, but no action has been taken till now,” Reena explained with tears rolling down her cheeks.

Satyarthi, during his session with Rajasthan Police Academy, informed that he is urging the central government to establish exclusive courts that will deal with all abuses against children. POCSO is one of them, but issues like child labour, child trafficking, and other cases under the Juvenile Justice Act.

‘JAI’ HO JAIPUR

A Guinness World Record was made at DAV Public School Jaipur on Wednesday as 15,000 students joined ‘Satyarthi Class’ on child sexual abuse. The previous record was of 250 students cumulatively taking a class for an hour.
