On way to court, undertrial inmate shot in broad daylight

An undertrial inmate from Panipat, Haryana currently lodged in Bundi central jail was on Tuesday noon shot at by one of the three unidentified assailants in Bundi district court premises while he was being taken to ADJ court No 2 from the lockup. The three accused, immediately after the incident, fled from the spot on a motorbike leaving everybody in shock. The inmate sustained three bullet injuries and was rushed to Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS)  The firing incident in broad daylight left the lawyers as well as the public in court premises stunned with concerns of security measures by local police.  Bundi district SP Aadarsh Siddhu had, however, taken safety and security initiatives and measures in recent past to check the crimes in the district, but the rising number of crimes and failure of the local police shows that initiatives and measures have proved nothing.

As per information, police personnel and Bundi jail guards were, on Tuesday, were taking Rakesh Singh, son of Balraj Singh, a resident of Panipat in Haryana and currently undergoing trial in Bundi jail, to ADJ court number 2 for appearance. Suddenly, one of the three unidentified assailants came close to him and shot at Singh’s head following which he collapsed on the spot. The assailant shot two more bullets at him and fled from the spot with two others already prepared with a motorbike at the court gate.

According to the staff at Bundi district hospital, Rakesh Singh sustained bullet injuries on neck, back and at one of the hands and they added that he was immediately referred to BMS hospital in Kota after the primary medical aid.

According to the sources, in 2015,  Singh was in Dablana police station of Bundi district under sections 365 and 308 of IPC and was under trial in Bundi central jail.  He was reportedly arrested in October this year. He is engaged in property dealing business and also reported to be the kingpin of a gang in Haryana.

When contacted, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Samandar Singh Champawat and circle in charge, City Kotwali Ramnath confirmed the firing incident in Bundi court premises but refused to divulge details saying the investigation into the matter is underway. Following the incident, an alert was sounded at all the check posts of the district and efforts were initiated to identify and nab the accused. Kota range IG Vishal Bansal also reached Bundi in the evening and spoke to the police officials to appraise the incident.
