It seems that students are gradually losing interest in National Students’ Union of India in the state capital, Jaipur.

During voting for NSUI state and district unit executive committees held at the Bani Park office on Friday,  only 1,021 voters out of 6,000 voters turned up for casting their vote.

Those who voted include 145 student leaders who are contesting for various posts of the student wing of Congress party. During the voting, the police detained 25 bogus voters.

Notably, voting for state and district executive of the NSUI is being held in districts from June 12 to June 17.

In this series, voting for NSUI state and Jaipur district unit committee started on Friday. On the first day, voting was held for 6,000 student voters of colleges whose names start with alphabet A up to alphabet L.

On Saturday, nearly 5,000 voters from colleges with name starting from alphabet M to Z would be held.

The low turnout on the first day of voting seems to indicate that nearly 7-10 voters voted for 145 candidates in fray. Meanwhile, it is also said that there was low turnout as the number of actual voters was less and NSUI had added bogus voters. However, bogus voting could not be held due to Congress Election Authority strictness.

The Authority deterred around two dozen voters from casting bogus votes. The accused were detained by Bani Park police and later released after enquiry.

Meanwhile, student leaders have been seeking votes in the name of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Sachin Pilot. It is believed that groupism among senior leaders of the state unit of Congress party has percolated to the students wing, NSUI as well.

Where NSUI state president candidate Abhishek Choudhary is being projected as a candidate supported by former CM Ashok Gehlot, another candidate Abhimanyu Poonia has been canvassing by projecting himself as a candidate backed by PCC chief Pilot.
