The rescue operation that started late on Saturday morning following the collapse of a two-storied building housing a restaurant-cum-bar in the Dhanmandi area of the city ended on a tragic note on Sunday.

Saddham, the 22-year-old youth who was trapped in the debris, could not be saved even after 15 hours of toil by the rescue team. However, his body was recovered from the site late on Saturday night.

Four others trapped in the debris had already been rescued alive within an hour of the collapse on Saturday noon.

According to fire officer at Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) Amzad Khan, the body was recovered around 2.45 am on Sunday.

The rescue operation by NDRF, SDRF, civil defence, Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) and military teams continued for over 15 hours and concluded at 3.30 am on Sunday.

After the rescue operation was over, Khan confirmed that no person is feared trapped in the debris.

Around eight rescue machines, including four JCB and four dumpers, were engaged in the rescue operation, he further said.

The two-storied building is most likely to have collapsed due to its having been erected over a week foundation. However, the exact reason behind the collapse could be ascertained only after a thorough investigation into the matter is over, Khan said. He added that there was no violation of any norm in the construction of the building.

The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem on Sunday morning and a case under section 174 of Cr. P. C. was lodged in this connection, circle in-charge of Gumanpura police station Anand Yadav said.

No case against the owner of the collapsed building has been lodged so far but if the owner is found guilty in the investigation, a case under relevant sections would be registered against him, the CI said.
