A day after Holi, it was Diwali at BJP state headquarters. Crackers were bursting and party workers dancing to the tune of dholak. BJP’s comprehensive victories in red bastion of Tripura and Nagaland - over 3000 kms away from Rajasthan - have given reasons to celebrate Holi and Diwali together. Party workers were seen applying colours of victories on each other while leaders were congratulating and patting backs of each other. BJP hopes that the high voltage victory in far North-east will be able to erase the agony of the drubbing suffered in the recent bypolls. This victory will help boost the sagging morale of BJP cadres and would definitely contain the aggression of Congress which is going all out against the ruling party after the bypoll wins.

The party workers came alive with their state president Ashok Parnami, who distributed sweets to celebrate the unprecedented success of the saffron party in the North-east. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who was not present at the party office, was also delighted with the results.

“It’s the result of Prime Minister Modi’s great leadership and national president Amit Shah’s extraordinary organisational skills. Victories in North-Eastern states have proved that there is no alternate toBJP in country. We are sure that we will form government in Rajasthan also with the public support,” she said.

Ashok Parnami was also ecstatic with the result. The victory in North-east has come as a soothing balm for the party which had suffered major debacles in the bypolls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal recently.

“Victory in Tripura and Nagaland is a victory of the people and workers. There is a great enthusiasm in party workers in Rajasthan and we expect BJP to cross the 180-plus mark in the assembly elections,” he said.

BJP victory has ended Left Front’s 25-year rule in Tripura. Parnamicongratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national president Amit Shah for this victory and said that the people of the country are happy with the social welfare schemes of the PM  and the country is moving forward for a developing a strong nation. City BJP President Sanjay Jain said that the party workers will celebrate with fireworks and sweets at the public places of every Mandal in the morning on Sunday in all 33 Mandals of Jaipur city.

On the other hand, Congress said that the victories in North-east will have not impact on the Rajasthan assembly elections. “Public in Rajasthan is fed up of BJP. Victories in North-east have no relationwith Rajasthan’s political situation. We are surely going to form the government in Rajasthan,” said Rameshwar Dudi, leader of opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly.

The Rajasthan Connect

BJP’s unprecedented success in North-East has something to do with Rajasthan. Kishore Shukla, husband of Rajasthan Finance Commission chairperson Jyoti Kiran Shukla, was the one who established the initial base for the saffron party while working as organising secretary with RSS and ABVP for the North-eastern states during 1980-86 when BJP was in its infancy. He worked together with V Satish, national joint secretary of BJP and incharge of Rajasthan in tribal areas of these seven states and publicised the work of RSS and BJP. At a time when there was no party cadre in North-eastern states including Tripura, Kishore Shukla and Satish travelled remote areas of these states to attract youngsters to join the party line. After 31 years, the tree which they both had plantedhave borne fruits. The saffron flag is hoisted in Assam, Tripura and Nagaland, but Shukla is not with us to celebrate.
