The work of making Gopalpura Bypass a 6-12 lane was started so that people get smooth traffic facilities. But due to the mistake of officials of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), the situation of traffic on Gopalpura Bypass has already worsened. JDA made 19 road cuts at this 13 kilometres bypass. Due to this, the traffic crawls due at the signal on these cuts. To make the condition worse, encroachments and illegal parking on Gopalpura Bypass works like ‘rotten cherry’.

JDA started the project of 6-12 lane of Gopalpura Bypass at a cost of Rs 95 crores. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje laid the foundation for this project in 2015. Now, after two and a half years, the project has not been completed yet.

JDA also removed encroachments from Gopalpura Bypass to Ten-B scheme. But so far, the work of removal of debris and footpath construction has not been completed. The road is not available to the commuters even after the road is widened. Illegal parking is being done by the coaching centres located on the stretch. After the opening of coaching centres, encroachment has increased on the road. Even after 12 lanes of road width, only six lanes of the road is available for traffic. The worst roadblock to smooth traffic is the median cuts.

Those Five Cuts

There are five cuts on the stretch in the distance of half a kilometre from Pandit TN Mishra Marg to Gurjar Ki Thadi underpass. There are two traffic signals on these five road cuts. The distance between Pandit TN Mishra Marg and the Shipra Path Traffic signal is not even 100 meters. Due to unnecessary road cut and traffic signalling, commuters face problems.

Sl‘ee’ping Lanes

JDA removed encroachment from Gopalpura Bypass but did not clear the slip lane encroachments for Gopalpura mode and Ridhi-Sidhi crossing. Due to which, the problem of traffic has remained intact in both the areas. An attempt was made to remove encroachments from slip lane at Gopalpura intersection at the time of the construction of Gopalpura flyover, but there is no slip lane yet.

‘Re-birth’ of Structures

JDA removed encrachment from the 160-ft width of Gopalpura Bypass. After the removal, the JDA officials did not do the monitoring. This led to the ‘re-birth of structures; again. Temporary and permanent encroachment has been done everywhere.
