Mayor Ashok Lahoti had to face the wrath of his own party’s councillors on Monday.

There was a dispute between the mayor and BJP councillors in the municipal corporation headquarters on Monday regarding issues like fake lease deed case, sewerage problem, and door-to-door waste collection.

Councillors accused the mayor of saving the officers. After this, the councillors reached the BJP headquarters.

Nearly 10 councillors of the BJP including Anil Sharma, Bhagwat Singh Dewal, Hari Ajmera, and Dinesh Kanwat reached the municipal headquarters to meet Lahoti on Monday afternoon.

They complained to the mayor about the fake lease deed case, sewerage problem, door-to-door waste collection and development works.

They claimed that BVG, the contractor engaged by the civic body, is not doing a good job regarding door-to-door waste collection in the city. The company’s vehicles are not reaching various garbage collection pockets on time.

Despite this, no action is being taken against the company. Councillors also expressed displeasure over the fake lease deed case. They told the mayor that the person who issued fake leases was told to probe the case himself.

Anil Sharma and Bhagwat Singh Deval became agitated and started to speak loudly. Councillors accused the mayor of saving JMC’s officers, who they said did not take the phone call of councillors. During this time, there was a heated debate between the mayor and the councillors for a long time. After this, the councillors reached the state headquarters to meet BJP state president Ashok Parnami. However, they could not meet him as he was in the assembly.

Civic body’s budget awaits govt nod

For the first time in the history of Jaipur Municipal Corporation(JMC), the budget will not be passed in the General Body Meeting(GBM). It will instead be sent to the government for approval. The JMC has sent the budget for the financial year 2018-19 directly to the state government on February 27 for its nod. Under the provisions of the Rajasthan Municipalities Act-2009, the budget for urban bodies should be passed by February 15.
