Dera followers on rampage in Rajasthan

Angry followers of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh went on the rampage in Sriganganagar as the news of his conviction in the rape case reached. The supporters turned violent and set afire an engineer’s official vehicle at Chahal Chowk area and then turned their ire at employment office located at Purani Ababdi area, which was also burned down.

Although the police were anticipating such incidents and took necessary actions to prevent any untoward incident, a handful of Dera supporters managed to indulge in arson at three places. Five people have been arrested in this regard.

“We had been in touch with the Dera people at various places and trying to convince them to not take law and order in their hands. The police vehicles had already been stocked with fire extinguishers and blankets, to tackle the situation where the supporters try to set themselves ablaze. Also, water tanks were sealed off so that no person climbs them and create troubles,” informed NRK Reddy, ADG Law and Order.

Directive has been issued for government officials to not travel in vehicles until informed by the cops.
