Keen to make “suitable” changes to school textbooks, the education department has ended up complicating things for the students.

There are glaring errors in new books for class 10th and 12th. In its haste to change the syllabus, the education department printed books with contradictory information, factual errors and proofreading mistakes leaving the students confused.

For example, the history book for class 12th. On page number 166, three separate stages of Rajasthan’s integration have been given the same name. On top of it, the students have been asked to name the capital of unified Rajasthan.

Another blunder is in the political science book in which Montenegro has been mentioned as a 193rd member of the United Nations on page number 186 but in class 11th book on page number 154, South Sudan has been named as the 193rd member of the UNO.

Further, India currently has 228 national highways but geography book of class 12th has two different numbers to claim. On page 234, the book says a number of national highways are 292/223 but on page 87, the number of national highways are 230. If this is not enough to send students into a tizzy, the number of national highways in the country is 235, according to the answer sheet in the book.

Hold your breath. According to a history book for class 12th, the famous philosopher and founder of Marxism, Karl Marx died on March 14, 1883. But with a change in page number, the date of Karl Marx death has also changed. In contradiction to the date on page 46, five-page later on page 51, Karl Marx said to have died on March 18, 1883.

The leading fruit producing state is a tossup between Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. The chapter 18 on fruit production in the country in Geography book has given top rank to both these states on different pages.

HISTORY ERROR

In history book of 12th Page, 164 Rajasthan’s integration date is March 18, 1948  but in page 165 It is March 19, 1948, but in class 8th book Rajasthan’s integration date is March 17, 1948

On creation of Governor’s post, page 166 says it was January 26, 1950 while page 167 says it was November 1, 1956

MISTAKES IN 8TH, 10THB AND 12TH BOOKS

  • No clarity on national highways in geography book.

  • Two different countries named as the last UNO member.

  • Which is India’s first Greenfield airport Hyderabad or New Delhi?

  • When did Karl Marx die March 14 or 18?
