When Vasundhara Raje was heading on Sikar’s 4-day tour, farmers’ agitation that harrowed the districts and surrounding areas few months back must have been in her mind. But there was no farmer protest, no agitation and no resent during her visit. Raje met with public, listened to their grievances and redressed their problems while inaugurating few projects, announcing new schemes and mingling with locals. Her Sikar tour before the assembly elections had political significance in terms of soothing nerves of farmers, who had staged violent protests and sit on in the district.

The party, which looked a little weary, has now been galvanised by her visit. Sikar, which has 8 assembly segments, will play a key role in determining the voting pattern for the entire Shekhawati, which has around 30 seats across three districts – Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu.

“Shekhawati has been given prominence as former MLA from Udaipurvati Madan Lal Saini was elected for Rajya Sabha. Saini commands Mali votes and that would be vital in the coming elections,” said a senior BJP leader.

Raje’s visit to Sikar was also crucial as her proposed Vikas Gaurav Yatra scheduled on April 15 has been postponed. However, no official confirmation has been received yet about its deferment.

“Raje has toured farmers dominated districts like Sri Ganga Nagar, Suratgarh and Sikar. She was supposed to tour all 200 assembly segments in her yatra. Now that her yatra is deferred, her interactions with farming community will help the party win back their votes,” said a senior leader.

The defeat in pre-elections in February has just fired up BJP, well in time. In past two months the party has initiated several campaigns and ground trips of senior leaders to assess the reality.
