CM to do periodic review of progress in making state ODF

Issues like increasing ground water table, ensuring clean drinking water discussed

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will do a periodic review of the progress made in making the state Open Defecation Free (ODF) by March 2018.The review will be done in every 15 days under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Raje was speaking during a meeting with Parameswaran Iyer,  the secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, held at her residence on Thursday.

The meeting reviewed the progress the state had with regard to providing clean drinking water and Swachh Bharat Mission. Raje  also said that geotagging of toilets should be made compulsory for ensuring quality and transparency in the construction.

During the meeting, Iyer informed about the remarkable work being done in Israel on water management. In this regard, the chief minister has asked the officials to explore the possibilities of working with Israel for  water  recycling and conservation. The suggestion to increase the amount contributed by union government for construction of toilets from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakhs was given by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Rajendra Rathore.

The meeting also discussed issues like desalination, increasing the ground water table and other steps for ensuring the availability of clean drinking water in the state.

Meanwhile, Raje will be conducting the Jansunwai program in Kota division today . The public hearing will be held at 8 Civil Iines from 10am to 1pm.
