Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ will not hit the screens in Rajasthan till the alleged ‘distorted’ facts are removed from the narrative, chief minister Vasundhara Raje said on Monday night. A statement released by the chief minister office (CMO) quotes that home minister Kataria apprised to Raje that film distributors in Rajasthan have willingly ‘shelved’ process to take the  movies’ rights.

Amid growing protests over ‘Padmavati’ movie, the home minister Gulab Chand Kataria convened a high-level meeting with senior officials of the department, including DGP Ajit Singh, home secretary Deepak Upreti to take a ‘decision’ on the movie.

Though no decision on banning the film was taken in the meeting, however the officials seriously mulled  the provisions mentioned under various laws which could prohibit its screening before the release nod was given by Censor board.

“We discussed in the meeting under which laws we can ‘act’ over the movie. We will not take a decision in haste and another meeting will be held on Tuesday,” the minister said.

The BJP government swung into action after its neighboring state Madhya Pradesh officially  decided to ban its release.

Sources in the home department said Raje government has started preparations to ban Padmavati in Rajasthan. “This was an official meeting to discuss the matter officially. In Tuesday’s meeting, the final call will be taken noting various provisions. The officials were told to work on it,” said a source in the department.

Attempt to hurt sentiments: Swamy

Rajya Sabha MP Subraimaniam Swamy said, "Few people fund movies depicting distorted history with intention to hurt sentiments of Hindus, the movie PK was also such an attempt. The movie will also tend to showcase that the invader Khilji was not as atrocious as history claims. He said that through distorted history these people tend to damage understanding of local people about their history.
