Remember Quick Gun Murugan? The accentuated Cow Boy from South. If they have had their reel life share of Sambar... we have our own desiboys in real life on our own turf. Yeah! it’s sandy, dusty and the clime can become ruthless at times. Gradually, we are also getting our “share” of trigger- happy Montys!

The recent ATS arrests and investigations reveal a major inter-state gang involved in providing fake licences and weapons to people is a point in case.

The inquest by the ATS has brought to the surface some intriguing revelations pertaining to possession of illegal arms. Piercingly cold, the accused even transgressed the trick of the trade and even went on to siphon off guns from their clients on the pretext of promising them multiple weapons and instead dished out less than the desired numbers. The ATS probe may open the Pandora’s Box. A closer look into the facts of the past few months in the state confirms that the horror is real and horrifying.

In the first six months of 2017, a whopping 3,510 cases have already been registered under Arms Act in the state. With a little more than two months left in this year, cops believe that this number could be double. Shockingly, this would mean that 19 cases under Arms Act are being registered in the state on a daily basis.

And these are just the cases that have come to light after police nabbed a person possessing an illegal weapon.

GANG CONNECT:

Did the accused provide weapons to criminals and gangs across the state? “The client’s details are being studied by the ATS. The detention of a history-sheeter from Ajmer and a hardcore criminal from Pali have twisted the tale on it’s tail.

REASONS FOR CONCERN:

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Rajasthan held third position in the country in 2015 as far as the number of cases of seizures under Arms Act are concerned. The data for 2016 is still awaited.

THE SCORE SHEET:

Of 5894 cases registered in the Arms Act in state, a whopping 3345 unlicensed, crude, country made weapons were recovered - second highest recovery of illegal arms in country. Moreover, the state stood fifth in the country in usage of these firearms for murder.

“Usage of arms in crime is on the increase over the past few years. Though several attempts are made to stop the peddling, a lot more still needs to be done. The ease with which country made weapons are available from MP and UP is a huge force to contest with,” an official of the state police said.
