The elections for three seats of Rajya Sabha from state will be held on March 23. Stung by recent defeat in three bypolls in which the ruling BJP lost support from Brahmin and Rajput communities, the Rajya Sabha elections may see the BJP fielding members from these two communities.

Entry of sitting MP and BJP National General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav to Rajya Sabha is foregone conclusion. For the remaining two seats  Brahmin and a Rajput face is very much likely on the cards.

Due to the record majority, it is certain for the BJP to win all RS seats.

Rajasthan has 10 seats in the RS. The Congress currently has two seats while BJP eight. With two more seats the BJP figure will reach 10.

The term of three MPs from Rajathan - Bhupendra Yadav, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Narendra Budania - will end on April 3. The election commission has declared the date of March 23 for the elections for the three seats of the RS. Bhupendra Yadav, MP from the BJP, is almost certain to get the ticket. Who will be two new faces? The BJP may use these two seats to appease two communities which are angry with the ruling dispensation. The Anandpal encounter and the Padmavati issue has alienated the Rajput community. The Brahmins, on the other hand, feel that they have not been given proper representation in the government.

The BJP can now give representation to both the castes in the RS polls to  bring back them in their fold.

Among the names from the Brahmin community Jyoti Kiran Shukla, Chairperson of the State Finance Commission, looks like a front runner. While Industry Minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat might be sent to Rajya Sabha to cool down resentment among the Rajputs.

Apart from this, the name of BJP state president Ashok Parnami is doing rounds. According to BJP sources, looking at the forthcoming assembly elections, two Rajya Sabha seats will be state-level leaders.

In Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Minority KJ Alphons, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel, senior leader Om Mathur, Ram Narayan Dudi, Narayan Lal Pancharia, Rajkumar Verma and Harshvardhan Singh Dungarpur are presently MPs from BJP.
