Busting a major smuggling racket operating in the border area of the state, the Barmer police and state police special wing - Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) - nabbed two men and recovered over six hundred grams of heroin from the duo.

The confiscated heroin is valued at over three crore rupees in international market. Notably, the ATS had been developing its lead for the past two months and had even suffered three set backs during its operations, however finally the men were nabbed.

The arrested duo are- Rehmatullah, a native of Pokhran in Jaisalmer district and Chunaram alias Suresh Prajapat, native of Bhadka in Barmer district.

“The ATS had received information about smugglers around two months back and had started a bid to develop the lead. During this time, the man who had stocked the heroin tried to sell it off thrice, however since no deal was struck, the ATS could not move in. Late on Tuesday night the deal got finalised and the duo who had come to take delivery of the consignment were arrested,” said Vikas Kumar, SP - ATS.

The ATS and local police recovered 650 grams of heroine from the men worth rupees 3.25 crore in international market. The ATS suspects that the network is linked with similar networks across the border in Pakistan. “There is a strong possibility of big wigs of the network being associated from across the border. The duo had purchased after paying Jamanat or token money while the remaining amount is dealt underhand. The courier - like the two arrested men - keep part of the money. The recovered heroin is a fraction of the huge consignment that had been brought here,” the SP informed.
