Twenty three years of age, huge bank balance, swanky cars, regular trips to foreign countries, running a real estate empire, interested in shooting competitions and now an accused in the fake licence case. These characteristics sum up who Anaas Khan is. A native of Gujarat, Anaas was arrested by the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday for getting a gun licence made but not in his name. The youth rather got the licence made impersonating a official of the Border Security Force.

Conducting its first arrest outside the state in the fake gun licence and weapons case, the state ATS nabbed a 23-year-old youth from Ahmedabad who was in possession of three weapons. Shockingly, the youth alleges that he takes part in local shooting tournaments organised in Gujarat.

“Anaas is the first person from outside Rajasthan who has been arrested in the fake licence case. Khan paid Rs 4 lakh through hawala transaction to get a licence made in the name of a constable of the BSF,” said Vikas Kumar, ATS Superintendent of Police.

Interestingly, even his father has been arrested in the past in a similar case. “Anaas’ father Salim Khan was arrested by Gujarat police earlier in a similar matter and was put behind bars too. Salim spends one quarter of a year in the United States,” officials said.

Interestingly, Anaas - after getting the licence made - got the weapons, a .22 rifle, .12 bore rifle and .32 bore pistol, from Dewas through one Zafar. “Zafar provided the weapons and through Zafar he came in contact with Zubair - both have been arrested earlier. He claims that he takes part in .22 shooting events in Gujarat but we do not think he is a professional shooter. This point will be investigated thoroughly,” officials said.

“This arrest shows that the gang has pan-India presence. We are conducting further investigation in the matter,” the SP said.
