19 days after his encounter, gangster Anandpal is cremated

After nineteen days of his encounter, the dead body of gangster Anandpal Singh was finally cremated on Thursday. The body was cremated by Singh’s maternal uncle’s son. Prior to the cremation, the authorities held a meeting with the family members informing them of the notice that the state human rights commission had issued to cremate the deceased.

A one-hour relaxation was given in the curfew that was imposed on Wednesday night after violence and arson by the community members who had gathered at Sanwrad, Nagaur for a condolence meet.

However, after the cremation, the curfew was back in place.

Earlier, the family members had been told about the SHRC notice issued to cremate the dead body which gave the state government twenty four hours to talk with the family members and have it cremated. Representations were sent to the family wherein senior administrative officials went to meet the family and handed over the notice.

Sources revealed that the women in the family threatened of immolating themselves. However, around 7 pm some of the family members accompanied the corpse to the cremation ground. As the family agreed to hand over the body, arrangements were made for the cremation. The deep freezer was transported to the cremation ground where the dead body was recovered and the sheets and robes that were used to cover the dead body after the post-mortem and to keep the body from putrefying were removed.  A small group of villagers also accompanied the dead body to the cremation ground at Sanwrad village. The final rites were conducted by Singh’s cousin.
