A 15-year-old girl of Jaga community who was forced to marry a person double her age around two years ago, was on Thursday rescued by the members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) from her parent’s home in Kethoon town of Kota district.

The minor girl, in a written complaint to State Commission for Woman and CWC, complained about harassment, thrashing and of forcibly marrying her off at an early age by parents and in-laws.

The minor, three days ago also went to the police station, but instead of being heard, she was allegedly thrashed by female constables.

The victim in her complaint alleged that she was forcibly married to a man of about 30 years after the death of her mother. Her father is a drug addict and a mentally retarded, she added. As she was continuously harassed at her in-laws’ home in Sathur village of Bundi district, she eventually returned to her parental home a few days ago.

The husband of the minor victim, identified as Ravi Jaga came to Kethoon town to take her back with him, but she opposed it, the CWC chairman, Kota, Harish Gurubaxani said, adding that when the husband and members of the paternal family forced her to go to her in laws’ home, the victim along with her younger sister approached Kethoon police station. Probably out of fear, the younger sister had gone missing since this incident.

A public representative from Kethoon town today morning sent a copy of victim’s complaint to CWC members and without losing time, along with the police personnel from Anti Human Trafficking approached Kethoon town and rescued the minor girl from home, CWC chairman Gurubaxani said.

The minor victim has currently been sent to Children Home and following further investigation into the matter, a case would be lodged against those found responsible for the plight of the minor, the chairman said.

The SHO at Kethoon police station, Pushpendra Singh Hada refuted all allegations leveled by the victim against the police at Kethoon police station and said the girl did reach the police station, but was no one misbehaved with her. The girl according to her birth certificate is an adult, he added.
