One of the biggest talking points from Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) defeat to Kings XI Punjab a few nights ago was the absence of Chris Gayle. It was a surprise for the RCB fans as the West Indian has been one of the most successful players in the history of the Indian Premier League.

The reason sighted by the RCB camp was perplexing, too. Gayle apparently had to make way for AB de Villiers, who had recovered from injury. With only four international players allowed in the playing 11 in the IPL, the management opted for the South African along with Shane Watson.

Now, with the Vijay Mallya-owned team taking on the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, all eyes will be back on Gayle. The Jamaican boasts of a phenomenal record at the venue, as the small boundaries suit his big-hitting.

Virat Kohli, who is returning for RCB as captain after an injury layoff, gave a big hint about Gayle's chances of playing against MI.

"Chris has always been a priority for us in the past so many seasons," said Kohli. "Last game was a scenario where AB (de Villiers) came in, Watto (Watson) came in and other two guys were bowling well. I think that is why Chris was left out in the last game, but yes what works for us in Bangalore we would definitely go with the strongest combination possible. Chris is the top contender for us to be playing the home games for us."

After the heavy defeat against Kings XI, looks like both Kohli and Gayle will feature in the RCB lineup on Friday. Wonder what Rohit Sharma has to say about this.
