IPL 2017 | Rising Pune Supergiant v/s Kings XI Punjab: Live commentary and score

Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) thrashed Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets in the Indian Premier League, in Pune on Sunday. In a crunch game - a potential quarterfinal - the Punjab outfit put up an embarrassing performance.

RPS, on the other hand, have made a massive statement going into the knockout stage. They will take on the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. And although the match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Steve Smith-led side will be confident of coming through having beaten Rohit Sharma's boys twice in the league stage.

With Kolkata Knight Riders locking horns with defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2, we are all set for a thrilling finish to IPL 2017.

Brief scores:

Kings XI Punjab 73 all out in 15.5 overs.
Rising Pune Supergiant 78/1 in 12 overs (Rahane 34 not out, Smith 15 not out)

06:41 PM

Anyway, we have the four teams that will compete in the Playoffs of IPL 2017.

Mumbai Indians will take on Rising Pune Supergiant in Qualifier 1, while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders will clash in Qualifier 2.

06:33 PM

Was it the case of RPS bowling exceptionally well, or did KXIP batsmen simply not show up? Your guess is as good as ours.

06:32 PM

This has been a shocking match to say the least.

It was supposed to be the first knock-out match of IPL 2017, but KXIP turned this into a damp squib.

06:31 PM

And it's all over!

Rahane steps out and deposits Maxwell in the stands.

06:25 PM

Skipper Maxwell brings himself into the attack.

Spreads the field out when the opposition needs about one run per over to win.

Baffling captaincy. If you're going to lose, might as well keep your best bowler on and keep attacking fields.

RPS - 62/1 after 10

06:22 PM

Finally some excitement in the game!

Rahane bludgeons a sweep off Tewatia, Martin Guptill drops a sitter at deep mid-wicket.

The Mumbaikar needed this piece of luck after the horrid season he has had with the bat. Let's see if he can stay till the end now.

For Guptill, it has been a forgettable day. The Kiwi opener had gotten out for a Golden Duck earlier in the day.

Time for a strategic time-out, quite possibly the last of the match.

RPS - 59/1 after 9 overs.

06:16 PM

Six singles from Axar's second over.

As easy as that for RPS now.

06:13 PM

Perfect setting for Rahane and Smith to get some runs under their belts without taking any risks.

RPS need 25 to win from 78 balls with nine wickets in hand.

06:10 PM

WICKET!

Axar strikes. Tripathi gets too adventurous, goes across his off-stump to play a paddle-sweep but gets bowled instead.

Skipper Smith comes in as the Powerplay ends.

RPS - 43/1 from 6 overs.

06:06 PM

Rahane gets into the act.

Plays a silken square-cut off Axar for four.

06:04 PM

Ever seen a sweep played as a short-arm-jab?

Tripathi hits Rahul Tewatia for a stunning six in the mid-wicket region.

RPS - 36/0 from 5 overs.

06:01 PM

Tripathi doing what he does best.

Cuts Ishant past point for four, then plays a fine leg glance to the fine-leg boundary.

RPS in cruise control at 30/0 after 4

05:55 PM

Tripathi comes well down the pitch again, pulls Sandeep for four.

05:49 PM

Bang!

Tripathi steps out to Mohit Sharma and smashes one through covers for four.

He has been mighty impressive the entire IPL 2017.

05:46 PM

Sedate start for RPS.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi have come out to open the innings.

They are 3 for no loss after the first over by Sandeep Sharma.

05:26 PM

KXIP are 73 all-out!

Mohit Sharma steps out and goes for a big one, only manages a to find Christian at long-off.

This is the lowest total by the Kings in their IPL history.

This is also only the second time RPS have managed to bowl out a side.

It's hard to imagine even a miracle saving the Kings.

See you after the break.

05:19 PM

Just 2 from Stokes' third over.

The Englishman's variations were too good for the tail-enders.

Zampa comes in next, tosses the first ball up, Ishant goes for a big heave, sitter for captain Steve Smith at covers.

KXIP - 71/9 from 15.1

Time for a strategic time-out

05:12 PM

WICKET!

Unadkat picks up his second.

Swapnil Singh slashes hard, Christian fumbles the thick edge at first slip, but Dhoni is alert and catches the ball on the rebound.

KXIP - 69/8 after 14

05:09 PM

KXIP will be bitterly disappointed with their performance today.

They were the form team coming into this game, having won back-to-back matches.

If they are blown away today, which seems most-likely, it will surely hurt for a long time.

05:02 PM

WICKET!

Christian picks up another one.

Similar to the way Saha perished, Axar goes after a wide one and gets caught behind by Dhoni.

Kings in shambles at 62/7 after 11.3

04:58 PM

Tight over from Zampa. Just three given.

KXIP 59/6 after 11.

04:52 PM

And another one goes down!

Nothing shot from Saha, pokes at a wide delivery from Dan Christian. Dhoni dives to his right and takes a comfortable catch.

Extremely poor application from the Kings in a crunch game.

They are 51/6 after 9.2 overs.

04:43 PM

Who would've imagined this?!

A must win game for both teams, a potential quarterfinal, and KXIP capitulate in the most stunning fashion.

Team owner Preity Zinta looks distraught. Why wouldn't she be.

Wriddhiman Saha, who had opened the innings, and Axar Patel are at the crease.

KXIP - 39/5 after 8 overs.

04:34 PM

RPS have made a strong statement in the Powerplay of this must-win clash with KXIP.

The Punjab outfit has already lost half its side.

Captain Glenn Maxell has just gotten out.

Pacer Shardul Thakur picks up his third wicket.

KXIP - 32/5 after 6 overs.
