Angry villagers today put up a road blockade and torched a truck after a youth was crushed to death under its wheels on NH 31 near Kurha village in Bihar's Begusarai district.

Sahebpur Kamal police station Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar said that the incident occurred when the youth, Lalit Sah (27), was knocked down by a speeding truck, which was on its way to Khagaria from Begusarai, killing him on the spot.

The deceased, who was running as part of his preparation for selection in the armed forces, was a resident of Lakshmipur village.

Just after the incident, local villagers caught the truck near Kalpyanpur village after giving it a chase, set it ablaze and blocked the NH for sometime, the SHO said.

The driver and the cleaner of the truck, however, managed to give a slip to the locals, Kumar said.

Senior police and administrative officials reached the spot, cleared the blockade after persuading the protesting people and sent the body for post-mortem.
