The DMK may be out of power in Tamil Nadu but M Karunanidhi's party has just topped the list of richest regional poltical parties in India.

According to the latest report released by Association of Democratic Reforms, the political watchdog, the DMK has the annual income of Rs 77.63 crore.

Its arch-rival and Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK comes at second position with Rs 54.938 crore and the TDP is third spot with Rs 15.978 crore.

The numbers analysed by the ADR shows that parties with top three income alone comprise more than 67 per cent of the total income of 32 regional parties, collectively.

The data collected relates to the income and expenditure of regional political parties in the year 2015-16. The ADR submitted its report to the Election Commission of India.

Among all regional parties, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha was the first to submit its audit reports while the Aam Aadmi Party was the last party to do so. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's party submitted its audit numbers almost a year after the deadline.

However, there are some major regional parties such as Lalu Prasad's RJD, Haryana's big player INLD and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party that have not submitted any income details to the ADR.

Earlier the ADR has released a report that had said that the BJP is the richest party in India with assets worth over Rs 893 crore in the year 2015-16. The Congress, main Opposition party, came second with assets worth Rs 758.79 crore.
