In yet another significant political development, the former JD (U) President and Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav met Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday to take forward talks on the opposition unity at the national level ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

After meeting Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Yadav said that Narendra Modi government was a threat to the democracy and Constitution of the country. It was necessary for all the opposition parties to form a front against the BJP at national level ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls to keep PM Modi out of power, he added.

Sharad Yadav said that after meeting Akhikesh, he will meet the BSP chief Mayawati also and urge her to be a part of secular front outside Uttar Pradesh. After his exit from JD (U), Sharad Yadav is making frantic efforts to bring all opposition parties on a secular platform against the BJP.

Sharad Yadav also hinted to meet TDP Chief Chandra Babu Naidu and other non-NDA parties in South to invite them of joining hands together.

On the advice of Sharad Yada, Akhilesh Yadav has agreed to begin talks with the RJD in Bihar. The SP Vice-President Kiranmoy Nanda will meet Laloo Prasad Yadav’s son in Tejaswi Yadav on March 24 in Patna to take forward talks.

Akhilesh had met the TMC Chief Mamta Banerjee in December last year. After the meeting Akhiesh had announced that he favoured a secular front with TMC, Congress and other like-minded parties to keep the BJP out of power in 2019.

Emboldened by the defeat of BJP in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats in by-polls at the hands of the BSP supported Samajwadi party candidates, both Yadavs feel that the UP’s successful opposition unity experiment should be extended at national level to check Narendra Modi grabbing power again in 2019.

Reacting to Sharad Yadav-Akhilesh Yadav meeting, the BJP Spokesperson Dr Siddharth Nath Singh said that the BJP was not worried about such political developments. “Let the entire opposition unite against the BJP but they will not be able to stop the NDA returning to the power in 2019,” he said exuding confidence.
