Following farmers protest in Kota division, the Rajasthan government today said it will procure garlic crop at Rs 3,200 per quintal.

State Agriculture Minister, Prabhulal Saini, said the state government will procure garlic from producers through Rajasthan State Cooperative Marketing Federation (RAJFED) in Kota division.

He said that 20 mm size garlic bulb will be procured at Rs 3,200 per quintal.

The procurement on MSP value will be done at Krishi Upaj Mandi in Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, Pratapgarh districts.

RAJFED will procure 10 metric tonnes garlic, he added.

The minister said the government has waived mandi tax and user charges in order to provide relief for farmers.

With this, farmers will earn profit of Rs 1.60 per kg on their produce.

RAJFED managing director Veena Pradhan said that garlic producers will be paid their payment through cheque or through direct deposits in their bank accounts.

"We will try to transfer the funds within three to four days," she added.

Kota division known for its bumper garlic crop and due to unexpected yield, garlic producers could not find buyers.

Unable to find buyers, Kota witnessed series of protests for getting suitable price for their crop.

Congress has announced to protest in Itawa of Kota on Thursday and take the movement forward to fetch garlic producers suitable price for their crop.

Meanwhile, various farmers associations will be holding state-wide protest.

Bhartiya Kisan Sangh will observe Mahapadav (sit-in) at divisional level in Rajasthan on Thursday to press for their demand related with farmers.

Amid rising protest across Rajasthan, State Cooperative Minister, Ajay Singh Kilak, has also announced to extend deadline by 15 days to procure wheat on MSP value.

Earlier, the date was June 15, which has been extended till June 30.

He said the government has procured more than 12.18 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in the state.

Kilak said there are 208 purchase centres in the state where wheat is purchased at Rs 1,625 per quintal and wheat of over Rs 19.79 billion has been procured.

Amid farmers protest at divisional headquarters, state's department of personnel cancelled sanctioned leaves of district collectors today.

The department in a release has cancelled the sanctioned leaves citing administrative reasons.
