West Bengal: Police recover 25,000 detonators in Bankura

Police recovered as many as 25,000 detonators in seven gunny bags in a vehicle in Gangajalkat area in Bankura district of West Bengal on Wednesday morning. "We recovered 25,000 detonators packed in several bags inside a Tata Sumo car. The bomb squad has been rushed to the spot. We are going to submit a prayer with the district court so that the explosives can be disposed off in a proper manner," said Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam, Superintendent of Police, Bankura district.

On Tuesday night, intelligence reports came in about a vehicle that was to transport a huge consignment of explosives.

Immediately, the senior officials of the Bankura district police ordered to put up 'nakas' – check points across the district – and nabbed the said vehicle. However, the driver of the vehicle fled. Meanwhile, the police has started investigation into the case and are questioning the owner of the vehicle.

While there is no clarity on the destination of the vehicle, police sources reveal that the vehicle was to go to a nearby district of the state.
