A 40-member CBI contingent headed by Joint Director R P Agarwal, a 1986 batch Assam-Meghalya cadre IPS officer, is probing the Vyapam cases.

CBI registered FIR against 18 persons on Tuesday in connection with alleged illegalities committed in the Forest Guard recruitment test conducted by Vyapam in 2012.
CBI is tightlipped on the names of accused in the FIR registered under IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery and under section of the MP Recognised Examination Act.
A preliminary enquiry has also been registered relating to the unnatural death of Brijesh Rajput, age (25 years) resident of Rajput Veterinary College, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) who had died on October 22, 2010, CBI sources said. Rajput was a suspect in one of the Vyapam cases probed by Madhya Pradesh Police.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu had on July 9 transferred the probe of all Vyapam cases, including the related deaths, to CBI.
