The Tamil Nadu government today said that the tenure of the one man commission appointed to probe the circumstances that led to violence during pro-jallikattu protests here in January this year has been extended.

Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam informed the state Assembly that the Justice S Rajeswaran Commission has been granted an extension following a request from him, but did not specify the period.

He was replying to Opposition Leader M K Stalin, who sought information in this regard.

The Tamil Nadu government had on January 31 announced a Commission of Enquiry to go into the circumstances leading to the violence during the pro-Jallikattu stir at the Marina and elsewhere and the alleged police excesses.
