So what does the gorgeous Nandita Das have to do with Inclusion? From Deepa Mehta’s critically acclaimed ‘Fire’, to an award winning directorial debut ‘Firaaq’ and the numerous social campaigns that she supports, Nandita Das has had an extraordinary and a multifaceted career that has repeatedly fortified her association with inclusion. Lakshmi Rebecca caught up with this amazing woman at her home in Mumbai, and got her talking about her thoughts on inclusive attitudes as well as her work that supports the cause.

The idea behind most of Nandita’s work, be it acting or directing has always been about bridging that gap, “When you work with the marginalised community, the idea is not to keep them in that cocoon, the idea is to make them… a part of an active society,” says Nandita as she sips chai and talks to Lakshmi.

According to Nandita the term ‘differently abled’ has come up because of how every one of us are ‘differently abled’ in one way or the other and that all of us cannot be ‘able’ in everything we do. Nandita also talks about her support for The India Inclusion Summit and how she believes it can help in facilitating inclusion for persons with disability in the nation, and shine light on positive efforts.

In the video below, Nandita also shares about how important it is for her as a mother to have her 3 year old son grow up in a compassionate society, and one that is inclusive. You don’t want to miss this!
