With the ongoing maintenance work of expansion joints of Vashi bridge, the traffic has been diverted to Thane-Belapur road to ease pressure over the bridge. However, light vehicles are allowed use the old bridge.
The maintenance work was taken on January 23 and this will be continued till February 12.
According to Navi Mumbai traffic police, the Mumbai-bound lane has been shut on the overpass and divert the traffic to the old Vashi bridge.
"Heavy vehicles going from Vashi to Mumbai can use the other side of the bridge during this time. And the light vehicles coming from Mumbai to Vashi will use the old bridge," a statement was issued by the Navi Mumbai Traffic police last month.
"We have suggested that heavy vehicles coming from Mumbai to Vashi take the eastern express highway to reach the Airoli toll booth. From the Airoli bridge one can take the Thane-Belapur road and then reach the Sion-Panvel road via Nerul. Likewise, heavy vehicles heading to Mumbai from Navi Mumbai can take the same route," added the release.
The repairs on the bridge will be carried out round the clock in the 21-day block. These repair works takes almost every year due to which diversions are planned.
