UP Police does 18 raids in 48 hours, 1 killed, 2 dozen wanted criminals arrested

WIth Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issuing fresh directives to tighten noose around criminals further after Kasganj communal riots, the Uttar Pradesh Police went on an operation spree killing a hardcore reward carrying criminal and arresting as many as two dozen wanted criminals in about 18 raids across state in the last 48 hours.

DGP Spokesperson Rahul Srivastava claimed that one wanted criminal was shot dead and about 24 hardcore criminals were arrested after 18 raids which spanned across dozen districts of the state in the last 48 hours. “Majority of them were wanted in heinous crime and were evading arrest for the past many years. Huge cache of arms, ammunition and cash were recovered from their possession,” he added.

The fresh crackdown has been intensified against hardcore criminals after the CM’s directive to the new DGP O.P. Singh. The opposition has, however, cautioned the BJP government to refrain from fake encounters. A UPCC delegation, led by its President Raj Babbar, has already submitted a memorandum to the UP Governor Ram Naik in this regard last week.

The Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Kasganj Police on Saturday arrested Rahat Qureshi after a brief raid when he was about to run away. He is one of the main accused in Chandan Gupta murder case and a mastermind in triggering communal clashes in Kasgnaj. SP City Piyush Srivastava said that a pistol and live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The Amethi Police arrested the mastermind of Jagdishpur shoot-out Rajesh Vikram Singh on Saturday. He was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head following the broad day light shoot-out on Tuesday in which one person was killed and five others were injured.

In Muzaffarnagar, the Special Task Force (STF) gunned down a hardcore criminal Inderpal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 in an raid in Western UP. The SP STF RN Singh claimed that he was wanted in about 30 cases of murder and loot in UP and Uttarakhand. While four of his associates managed to escape, he was wounded and nabbed. Two pistols and 12 bore gun was recovered from him.

In an raid with criminals in Chief Minister’s hometown Gorakhpur, the police shot at and arrested Manoj Yadav and Manish Yadav when the duo were trying to escape after robbing a village pradhan.  They have been admitted to the BRD Medical College. A .32 bore pistol, a 12 bore gun and mobike was recovered from them. Both were also involved in the murder of a businessman in the district.

In Lucknow, the police succeeded in arresting four members of Bawaria gang of Rajsathan who were involved in four dacoities in the state capital in close succession after an raid in Krishnanagr area on Saturday. Two criminals, identified as Mahendra and Manoj, were injured in the police firing. Three country-made pistols, a 12 bore gun, live cartridges and looted cash were recovered from them.

Six criminals were arrested in Shamli and four from Bulandshahr in different raids with the police. Among those arrested in Bulandshahr, three of them were carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 each.

The Chitrakoot Police on Saturday nailed down gang of dreaded Babuli Koli in Markundi jungle. After several of hours of gun-battle, police arrested his accomplice Jialal Kol. Babuli Kol, who is carrying a reward of Rs 7 lakhs from UP and MP governments, however, managed to escape.  He had shot into limelight when he burnt alive three businessmen, kidnapped from MP, in jungles of Chitrakoot last year.

Carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, the Saharanpur Police shot at and nabbed Julfiqar alia Johny when he was trying to escape after committing a robbery on early Saturday morning. A looted mobile and a pistol was recovered from him. Several cases of murder and loot are pending against him.

Carrying reward of Rs 10,000, the Noida Police held two hardcore criminals, identified as Ankit Sharma and Rahul, after an raid in Sector 69.  Meerut Police arrested Fakhruddin, carrying a reward of Rs 15,000, after he sustained bullet injuries in raid with the police on Friday.

A Sub-Inspector, a constable and a wanted criminal were injured in an raid with the Kannauj Police in Vishnugarh area of the district. The arrested criminal was involved in looting a truck carrying batteries worth RS 60 lakhs. Police have arrested ten members of the gang.
