Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi today called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and discussed the security situation in the state, including the border areas.

"The Governor and the Home Secretary discussed the obtaining security environment and issues in regard to which effective enforcement and implementation are required, particularly keeping in view the continuing attempts at infiltration, cease-fire violations and recurring incidents aimed to cause unrest," a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.

The official said Mehrishi, who had visited the Shri Amarnathji Shrine earlier in the day, also briefed the Governor about the security arrangements in place for the annual pilgrimage which began today.

Mehrishi, who is expected to offer prayers tomorrow at the cave shrine, also called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, officials said.
