Malkit Singh Bal of the AIMTC said this was the result of protracted negotiations and discussions with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and the Ministry of Finance by a team in New Delhi comprising of SK Mittal, President of AIMTC, Kultaran Singh Atwal, Honorary Chairman, Harish Sabharwal, VP (NZ), and Gunjeet Singh Sangha, MC member.
Another team comprising Bal Malkit Singh, Chairman – Core Committee & Former President, Mukesh Dave, VP (WZ), Amritlal Madan, Chairman – Coordination, GR Shanmugappa, former President, Gopal Naidu, MC member, and Mukesh M Shah interacted with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) in Hyderabad.
"With kind intervention of Pon Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Mansukh L Mandviya, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Santosh Gangwar, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Finance, Sanjay Mitra, IAS, Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Abhay Damle, IRS, Joint Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and N Balasubramanyam, IPS, Transport Commissioner, Govt of Andhra Pradesh the issues were sorted out," said Bal.
1. The major demand of transport fraternity for reduction of arbitrary steep proposed hike of 50% in Third Party Premium by IRDA has been acceded to and it has been capped at upper limit of 27%.
2. IRDA has agreed to form a consultative committee having representation from Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Finance and five members of AIMTC to discuss issues of transport sector viz. TPP hike, Claims matter etc.
3. For all other operational issues, it was assured that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has instituted a standing committee under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary (RT), MoRTH, so that these are addressed in an expedite manner along with monthly review of the progress made in that regard.
"In consideration of the hectic negotiations and developments in the past two days, the core committee has unanimously decided to withdraw the call for nationwide chakkajam from midnight of April 8, 2017," Bal announced.
