A joyous marriage party in a Haryana village turned tragic when the groom's brother was killed over a dispute between band artistes and some persons in the wedding procession.

On the night of February 18, when Sanoop's wedding procession reached Mamaria Thethar, the village of the bride, a dispute arose on the issue of moving ahead with the music system placed in a pickup vehicle, police said.

As the dispute escalated, one of band members dragged a youth, Mahesh, from the procession into the vehicle which quickly drove away.

On seeing this, Subhash, a resident of Rampuri, and the groom's elder brother Anoop started chasing them.

After some time, the vehicle stopped and Mahesh jumped out of it, police said.

Then Anoop boarded it and the vehicle again sped away but he was later found in an injured condition, they said, adding he was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

On a complaint by the parents of the victim, the police registered a case of murder and two persons -- the band leader and the driver of the vehicle -- were arrested.
