Former Intelligence Bureau director Dineshwar Sharma has been appointed as the special interlocutor for sustained dialogue on Kashmir with all stakeholders. 

While making the announcement Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, "Dineshwar Sharma will initiate dialogue with elected representatives of J&K, political parties, different organisations and people." 

IPS officer of the Kerala 1976 batch, Dineshwar Sharma was the chief of Intelligence Bureau from 2014 to 2016. Born in Bihar, he took his primary education from the Pali Village in Bihar. Sharma also qualified for the Indian Forest Service and later went to serve the nation as an IPS officer.  He has served at various positions in Police, Paramilitary and Intelligence agencies.

Here're other details of his illustrious career:

*He was the Sub-divisional officer in Alappuzzha District Kerala, later he was the ASP of a Malabar Special Batallion Police.

* Sharma has been the DIG of the border security force from 1999-2003

*He was also the Joint Director of IB (Islamist Terrorism Desk) in 2003-05, IG of CRPF in charge of Jammu & Kashmir, Director of the BSF Academy, and Additional Director and Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. 

*Dineshwar Sharma was also the Instructor at the Sardar VallabhBhai Patel National Police Academy as the SSP.

*Sharma has been specially trained on Intelligence work and policing methods in East Germany, Poland, Israel and South Korea.

*He also dealt with 2015 Gurdaspur attack, aftermath of the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in Kashmir, Uri attack in   2016, rise of ISIS recruitment in Kerala as the Director of Intelligence Bureau.

*Sharma has served as the interlocutor for peace talks with Assam’s insurgent groups, including the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in June this year.

* He has also worked with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during his tenure as the IB chief.
