Six years on, star hockey player Yuvraj Walmiki still awaits govt-promised house

Unfulfilled promises are haunting an ace hockey player. Six years ago, Yuvraj Walmiki was promised a home by the government. He shot instant fame after scoring a goal against Pakistan. He took to social media two days ago to voice his grievances and urge the government to fulfill their promise.

Walmiki currently stays in a small 100 sq ft apartment near Marine Lines station. The small house is insufficient to accommodate his large family comprising his mother, father, him, and three brothers. The wife of the elder brother resides in a village due to the lack of space and privacy here.

When contacted, Walmiki confirmed posting the tweets, saying he was just reminding the government of their promise. He said, "Several attempts to get a home, a promise made by the government, has yielded no results and hence I took to social media."

According to Walmiki, on September 21, 2011, the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had promised him a house. After that, he was even invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Devendra Fadanvis in 2014 at Wankhede Stadium. But, that didn't help his cause.

He tweeted, "Dear concerned authorities, it is my humble request to look into the matter & help me get the house which I was promised a long time back." He posted a series of tweets in this regard last week.

Upon seeking a response, Vinod Tawde, a state government minister, said, "All such house issues are dealt by the High Court and can only be resolved after a judgement is passed."
