Come Spring and tulips will bejewel the paradise!

Asia's biggest tulip garden is all set to welcome the tourists with nearly 1.25 million tulips on March 25. This year, hyacinths, daffodils, narcissus and other ornamental plants will make their debut in the Asia's biggest tulip garden.
Spread over 600 kanals (20 kanals form one hectare) of land, the tulip cultivation has been done on 200 kanals of the garden area.

Located at the foothills of the Zabarwan hills on the banks of Dal Lake, the tulip garden is the biggest draw for the tourists visiting Kashmir in spring. Grandeur, serenity and colorful tulip beds, beautiful Zabarwan mountain range overlooking the garden and world famous Dal Lake at its base mesmerizes tourists and marks the spring beauty of the Valley.

"We are ready. Our tulip plantation is around 1.25 million bulbs of 50 varieties. Plus there are 4000 Hyacinths which has been imported from Holland. This is a spring garden. Whatever plantation is there it should reflect the spring bloom. We have also made the water channel functional," said Mathoora Masoom, Director Floriculture Department, Kashmir.

Last year more than 1.5 lakh visitors visited the garden in spring. This year too, the authorities are hoping good footfalls given the initial response from the people.

"We have been getting endless calls and emails from the country and abroad about the opening of garden. People are calling us to know when the garden will open. They all want to book the tickets," said Mathoora.

The highlight of season will be the tulip festival this year. Showcasing traditional exquisite handicrafts, ethnic cuisine and painting competitions are all planned for the festival this season. The icing on the cake will be the free WiFi in the garden.

"Strict instructions have been given to maintain the pristine beauty of the garden and not allowing any activity that is detrimental to it. No pitching of tents or any other activity will be done inside the garden. We have identified a patch of land outside the garden where these stalls and activities will be done," said Mathoora.
