Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Tuesday inaugurated a national workshop -- “Sports for All”, which saw the participation of about 80 representatives from Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Department of Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Observers, National Sports Federations of high priority and priority disciplines, SGFI and AIUs, Sports Secretaries of the States and the Union Territories, Sports promotion Boards and Sports promotion NGOs. One of the key objectives of the workshop was to unite all the stakeholders and create a shared vision with respect to harness the various benefits that sports offer.

Rathore said, "A massive overhaul of the entire sporting system is underway with the Khelo India initiative of the government as per the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khelo India scheme is not limited to development of stadiums; it will also work for the development of athletes and the nation.  All the stakeholders in sports have to bring professionalism, responsibility, and accountability for the promotion of sports in the country and the government will have zero tolerance towards misgovernance in sports bodies in different disciplines.

Rathore highlighted that from that large pool of 1000 players would be selected for support with resources to the tune of about five lakh rupees per year, for eight years. Every year, 1000 athletes would be added to the list to open the gates for talent spread across the nation.

The National Sports Talent search portal would be another method for identifying talented children and helping them with substantial guidance. The minister said that the government was equally focused on identifying a strong pool of coaches to guide the athletes and keep everyone in a loop. The whole exercise would have a regular monitoring mechanism.

Emphasising the need for professionalism, responsibility, and accountability for the promotion of sports in the country, the minister stressed that mismanagement would be met with zero tolerance. The attempt would be to get everyone on the same page towards a common goal with a shared vision, so as “to harness the multiple benefits that sports offer’’.

It was clarified that “Khelo India’’ drive was about broad-basing sports, in terms of spotting talent, providing opportunities for playing, creating competition and most importantly creating an awareness of physical fitness and good health across the country.
