Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a time bound probe by the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Srinagar into the NIT incident. The commission has been asked to submit its report within 15 days.

Around eight non local students were injured when police used lathi charge to disperse a group of 500 students who tried to lead a march and exit the campus gate on Tuesday evening.

Non-local students have been demanding hoisting of tricolour on the campus and permanent security against outsiders who pelt stones and deployment of central forces. Other demands include shifting of NIT outside Kashmir, equality and transparency during all the examination, no harassment by the faculty and action against some faculty and administration members.

Rajendra noted that the NIT would not be shifted outside Kashmir and there is no security threat in the valley. "They (students) are safe. If they are not safe how could so many of them reach Jammu (for their onward journey to their homes)," he said.

To a question how Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena (BSKS) leader Tajender Singh Bagga reached NIT campus here when he along with his supporters were repatriated on Sunday, the DGP said he had quietly taken a flight from Amritsar to reach Srinagar. "We had pushed him back from Lakhanpur. He took the flight in Amritsar and landed quietly here," he said.
