Shimla gang rape: 5 accused take narco test

The Himachal Pradesh police had arrested six accused persons in the gang rape and murder of a minor school girl whose naked body was found in the isolated woods in Halaila village in Kotkhai.

In the Shimla gang rape and custodial death case, five accused have undergone narco analysis test on Tuesday. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had their doubts over probe carried out by the Himachal Pradesh police in the case. The CBI is also probing the murder of one of the accused which led to the arrest of police officials, including an Inspector General of Police, in the custodial death case. "The five accused have undergone narco analysis test," said a senior CBI officer.

The Himachal Pradesh police had arrested six accused persons in the gang rape and murder of a minor school girl whose naked body was found in the isolated woods in Halaila village in Kotkhai. The six arrested accused were identified as Ashish Chauhan, Rajendra Singh, Subash Singh Bisht, Suraj Singh, Lok Jan and Deepak. Thereafter Suraj, who was lodged in the Kotkhai police lockup with prime accused Rajendra Singh, died on the night of July 18 under mysterious circumstances, five days after he was arrested.

They had allegedly kidnapped a teenage girl, who was on her way home from school on July 4, raped her and strangled her before disposing off her body in a forest. However, the body was found two days later. The incident triggered violent protests by the locals.

Earlier, the CBI had also arrested Inspector General (IG) Zahur H Zaidi, who was heading the Special Investigation Team probing the gang rape and murder incident, and Deputy Superintendent Manoj Joshi were arrested along with six others. Other policemen arrested are Rajender Singh, the then Station House Officer of Kotkhai police station, Assistant Sub Inspector Deep Chand Sharma, Head Constables Surat Singh, Mohal Lal and Rafiq Ali and Constable Ranjit Streta.
