Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal today directed setting up of a separate company under DDA to to manage biodiversity parks in a focused and sustained manner in the national capital.

The Lt Governor, who visited Yamuna Biodiversity Park, directed that "a separate corporate entity be set up to manage Biodiversity Parks for preservation of flora and fauna in Delhi," said a statement from LG office, adding he pointed to the "urgent need" to revive lost ecosystems of Yamuna river.

He emphasised that the Yamuna Biodiversity Park is a unique urban landscape, contributing towards preservation of natural heritage including vanishing flora and fauna. Both the Yamuna and the Aravalli Biodiversity Parks have been providing ecological services to the city of Delhi.

Baijal was associated with conceiving Biodiversity parks in the national capital, while serving as vice chairman of Delhi Development Authority.

He was accompanied by DDA vice chairman Udai Pratap Singh, environmentalist Prof CR Babu, scientist incharge of Yamuna Biodiversity Park Dr Faiyaz A Khudsar, and Mala Baijal.

Baijal appreciated the efforts of the team of Prof Babu alongwith DDA officials for bringing up the biodiversity parks in their present form while pointing to the "urgent need" to revive lost ecosystems of Yamuna river.
