Kites appealing for the release of Indian Naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is in a Pakistan jail on charges of espionage, were seen at the International Kite Festival that was inaugurated in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Jadhav, who was arrested in 2015 by Pakistani authorities, recently had a chance to meet his wife and mother, amidst controversy.

The matter was taken up by the Indian government, who termed Pakistan’s behavior in the incident as absurd. Speaking in Rajya Sabha, external affairs minister termed Pakistan's behaviour absurd and accused it of repeatedly violating human rights of Jadhav's family. The Congress Party stood in support of Sushma Swaraj in condemnation of Pakistan, over the ill-treatment of the former Indian naval officer’s kin. Jadhav, 47, was allowed to meet his mother Avanti and wife Chetana Jadhav across a glass screen on Christmas Day.

The Pakistani authorities on January 4 released another video where he has said that the Pakistani authorities are taking ‘good care of him’.

In response to the new video, India said Pakistan is simply continuing its practice of putting out coerced statements on video.

"This does not come as a surprise. Pakistan is simply continuing its practice of putting out coerced statements on video. It is time for them to realise that such propagandistic exercises simply carry no credibility. The absurdity of a captive under duress certifying his own welfare while mouthing allegations of his captors clearly merits no comment," an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs said.

"Pakistan is best advised to fulfil its international obligations, whether it pertains to consular relations or UNSC resolutions 1267 and 1373 on terrorism and to desist from continuing violations of human rights of an Indian national," a spokesperson said.
